The Coronavirus and its impact
India has begun to lockdown due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the coronavirus pandemic, which killed over 15,000 people globally, and the numbers are still increasing. Amid this continuing lockdown, humans are grabbing their hands on all essentials they can and stocking up necessary items at home. Schools, colleges, offices, markets, shopping malls, eateries, etc. are closed.
Humans are locked inside their houses, and stray dogs are now orphaned on the streets. The shutting down of public establishments, markets, and eateries will create challenging times for the dogs to find the food. Weekly markets and roadside eateries are the primary sources of food for these stray dogs, and now they are closed, the dogs are left outside the lockdown hungry and helpless.

Several generous people feed stray dogs regularly, make these creatures happy, and help them to survive. Local good Samaritans will not be able to supply the stray dogs, and they might end up dying of hunger, as they are locked down in their houses and have been asked to stay isolated to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
How will the stray dogs survive, and what if they start dying of hunger, and that could lead to more panic in the Coronavirus situation. This is the unforeseen casualty for the stray dogs in this hardship.
To avoid such scenarios, the Animal Welfare Board of India has issued an advisory to all the chief secretaries of state and Union territories that food for companion animals and strays is an essentials service and kept operational during the lockdown. It has also requested the district administration to allot times for designated workers or volunteers to provide food and water to strays since it is an “essential service.” Even Smt. Maneka Gandhi also advised people to feed as many strays as possible and whenever to help the animals survive.

Feeding of strays is part of an urban city, just like traffic jams and shopping malls. The more the strays will be fed, the more they will be calm and won’t harm anyone in the society. So keep feeding your stray dogs in your surroundings with complete prevention by wearing gloves and masks.
